P.V. Estates : Open-Space Restrictions
The City Council this week extended for one year an urgency ordinance imposing a moratorium on any use of property zoned as open space.
The moratorium was imposed a year ago out of concern over what would happen to Margate Intermediate School after its closure by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District. Schools are a permitted use of open space, but a continuation school for students with special educational problems was proposed at Margate, which neighbors vehemently opposed.
The urgency ordinance would have expired this week. It was extended to give the city additional time to develop criteria for open-space use.
