Bellflower : Industrial Park Delay

Share

After months of delays, Downey developer George Holiday will have to wait two more months to learn the fate of his proposed $15-million industrial park in Bellflower.

The City Council voted to continue the public hearing on his project until Oct. 27 to give staff more time to study the size of the buildings and traffic problems that may be caused by the project.

For the past two months, Holiday and the city have been arguing over a contract stating that Holiday would not to use the facilities as mini-warehouses. Holiday said he refuses to sign the contract because it will put a cloud on the property, making it difficult to borrow money on the project.

But city officials said they will not approve Holiday’s project until he signs the contract.

Holiday had originally proposed a mini-warehouse facility for the 2.6-acre site, but in June, the city passed a 10 1/2-month moratorium on such storage facilities.

“I don’t understand what’s going on,” Holiday said after the meeting. “First they ask me to sign this document and now they bring up an entirely new issue regarding traffic problems. Every day this project is delayed, I am losing money.”
