Police Investigating Joyner Incident

NEW YORK — Police were investigating a knife-throwing incident at Yankee Stadium in which Angel rookie Wally Joyner was grazed, but not injured, a Yankee spokesman said Wednesday.
The knife with a five-inch blade was thrown from the stands Tuesday night after the Angels’ 2-0 victory over New York.
“The Yankees deplore the incident that occurred at the end of the Yankee-Angel game last night,” club spokesman Harvey Greene said. “The Yankees have asked the New York City Police to conduct a complete and thorough investigation of the matter.”
Last season, a pregnant woman was shot in the hand during a game at Yankee Stadium, but despite Tuesday night’s incident, no extra security was planned for the park, Green said.
“We have always felt that our security has been more than adequate,” he said. “We have taken in the past a number of measures, including the introduction of low-alcohol beer, and we have one of the finest and largest private security forces in the world. These people have done Presidential inaugurations and the 1984 Olympics.”
