The hearing on the United States Football League’s request for a new trial on damages in its antitrust suit against the National Football League has been postponed two weeks until Sept. 17. The NFL requested the delay because one of its lawyers was ill.

The USFL is asking Judge Peter Leisure to throw out a jury’s award of $1, tripled to $3 under antitrust law, because of what the league says was confusion by the jury. The USFL also wants to hold a new trial to determine damages. Meanwhile, the NFL has filed a counter-motion, asking that the finding of liability be dismissed.
