A higher-than-average number of Kansas farmers exposed to the weed killer 2,4-D have developed lymphatic cancer, a National Cancer Institute report published in the weekly Journal of the American Medical Assn. said. No correlation was found between cancer and exposure on a smaller scale, such as in home gardening, it said. Previous animal studies found no cancer risk, but federal officials said that the new findings probably will lead to a special review of the widely used herbicide’s effects.
