Long Beach : FAA Safety Meeting Sought
Reacting to Sunday’s crash of an Aeromexico jetliner in Cerritos, the City Council has invited the Federal Aviation Administration to visit the city to provide assurances of air traffic safety in the Los Angeles basin.
Councilman Tom Clark, who suggested the meeting, said he wanted to provide a forum for the FAA “to explain how safe we are and how safe are the other 70 communities” in the basin.
Councilman Edd Tuttle, who has clashed with FAA officials in the past, said he had no objections to sending the letter, but added, “I just don’t think they (the FAA) are going to show up.” Tuttle is the council’s leading opponent to the FAA’s request to increase the number of flights at Long Beach Airport.
An FAA spokesman could not be reached for comment.
