An American Airlines pilot and his son were killed in the crash of their single-engine plane in a remote area north of the Tijuana border, the San Diego County coroner’s office said. They were identified as Barry Neil Westman, 48, of San Diego and Barry Brandon Westman, 23, of Salt Lake City. They were practicing takeoffs and landings when the plane crashed about two miles north of Brown Field, authorities said. A Navy helicopter pilot spotted the wreckage of the plane.
