San Diego
A San Diego man, one of three victims wounded in a shooting at a Southeast San Diego liquor store parking lot Thursday night, died on the operating table Friday morning, police said.
Jose Lepe, 20, died of gunshot wounds to his abdomen about 6 a.m. at UC San Diego Medical Center, the San Diego County coroner’s office said.
Enrique Ramirez, 18, was shot in the left side. Valentin Gutierrez, 13, was wounded in his left leg, police said. Ramirez was released and Gutierrez is listed in good condition after surgery, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The three were standing in the parking lot of Woody’s Market & Liquor at 38th Street and National Avenue at 8:36 p.m. Thursday when two men drove up, Detective John Flynn said.
One of the men got out of the car, walked within 50 feet of the victims, pulled out a gun and fired 5 to 10 shots. Witnesses said the assailants shouted the name of a Logan Heights gang before fleeing the scene.
The San Diego police gang unit and homicide detectives are investigating.
