Is It Time for Reggie to Call It a Career?

Tsk, Tsk. How much longer must the Angel faithful endure the managerial incompetence of Gene Mauch? His long and unequalled record as a loser, supported by disgusting traits of absolute predictability, such as Little Ball, misuse of pitchers, always playing percentages and failure to inspire or exploit his current talent make him no match for the premier managers of the American League (such as Earl Weaver, Sparky Anderson, Billy Martin and Dick Howser). His overall record against such teams bears this out.

Gene’s inability to get the most out of his team, as a team, is nearly excelled by Mike Port’s consistent record for letting premier talent get away. Come on Gene (Autry), Jackie, or whoever makes the important decisions for the Angels, give us a break, it’s time for some changes at the top. Let’s send Gene (Mauch) to Las Vegas, where he can scout the Little Leaguers, and put the poker face to better use at the casinos.

Let’s hear it for Joe Torre, a class act who is intelligent, experienced and aggressive. Who knows? Unlike Gene (Mauch), he may even occasionally admit to having made a mistake.
