It was a parent’s nightmare come true.
When retired firefighter William Ward, 42, of Irvine came upon a traffic accident in Tustin, he stopped to see whether he could help.
But it was too late. A 22-year-old motorcyclist had run into a fence post on Moulton Parkway and was killed.
It was Ward’s son Robert.
“The victim’s mother was also there, but to our knowledge she did not see her . . . son,” one officer said.
