A mayor was shot to death in southeast Turkey on Friday and police feared the start of a blood feud between two local families, news agencies said.

Strict security measures were taken around the town of Kiziltepe as tension mounted over the gunning down of Mayor Ibrahim Ozmen.

Police detained a member of the Dundar family, with whom they believed the mayor had a financial dispute, the Anatolian and Hurriyet agencies reported.
