Lady’s Secret, a 4-year-old daughter of Secretariat, led from the start and won the $112,600 Maskette Stakes in the fastest mile ever run by a filly or mare at Belmont Park in New York.
With Pat Day in the saddle, Lady’s Secret finished seven lengths in front in 1:33 2/5, which was 2/5 of a second faster than the stakes record set by Pearl Necklace in 1978. It was the third-fastest mile in Belmont history, topped only by the 1:33 of Conquistador Cielo in 1982 and the 1:33 1/5 of Noble Nashua in 1981.
