Local News in Brief : Driver Critical After Car Swerves Into Pole
A North Hollywood man was critically injured Sunday when the 1984 white Trans Am he was driving careened down Laurel Canyon Boulevard near Laurel Terrace striking telephone poles and street lights.
Patrick Bright, 19, was northbound on Laurel Canyon Boulevard driving at speeds between 80 and 100 m.p.h. when his Trans Am began swerving from side to side, witnesses said.
Police said the car first hit the curb then crashed into a telephone pole. The force of the impact ejected Bright from the car, police said.
The driverless car then continued for about a half block hitting another telephone pole, a street light and two parked cars before coming to a stop.
No bystanders were injured in the accident that occured shortly before 1 p.m., police said.
Bright was rushed to St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank with multiple fractures and internal injuries. He was listed in critical condition following an operation, St. Joseph’s nursing supervisor Karen Marlin said.
