Santa Ana : KHJ-TV Wins Contract to Air ‘Toys on Parade’

KHJ-TV (Channel 9) will broadcast the third annual “Toys on Parade” this year for $45,000 under a contract approved Monday by the City Council.

The Dec. 6 parade, which features the West Coast’s only balloon-style floats, will begin at 10 a.m. The contract calls for KHJ to broadcast the parade live for 90 minutes, provide promotional spots for the city and repeat the show on Christmas Day. In addition, a delayed broadcast will be shown on Channel 52, a Spanish-language station, City Manager David Ream said.

KTLA-TV (Channel 5) televised last year’s parade but lost out in this year’s bidding, which also included an offer from KCOP-TV (Channel 13), according to Dori Owen, community events manager for the City of Santa Ana. The contract approved Monday represents a $25,000 savings over last year’s cost, Owen said.

Owen added that the hosts of this year’s broadcast will be actor Alan Thicke and TV newswoman Tawny Little.
