A jury found two young men guilty of murdering a 17-year-old girl to prevent her from testifying against the leader of a gang that they wanted to join. Jederick Bond, 19, and Glen Martel, 20, were convicted by the Superior Court panel of first-degree murder in the Feb. 28, 1985, slaying of Erica Johnson, who was shot four times in the face outside a market in West Los Angeles. The shooting occurred about six hours after she was subpoenaed to testify against Kevin Goff, 26, reputed leader of the Playboy Gangster Crips street gang. Goff, now awaiting trial in another case, was at one time accused of having threatened Erica Johnson’s life after she testified against his former girlfriend.
