Brazilian authorities mounted a nationwide search for 14 convicted killers who were allowed to flee a maximum-security prison with six volunteer hostages in a deal to end a 31-hour siege. The hostages were later released. Brazilian radio said police were focusing on Gama, a community of 150,000 near Brasilia, but government officials said the police have no firm clues as to the convicts whereabouts. The escape of the inmates was the second hostage incident this week. Earlier, police stormed a prison to free 14 people held hostage by 12 inmates, who were all killed in the assault.
