The Main Problem With Drugs Is Their Illegality

Share

I was glad to see that the Rapid Transit District’s new anti-drug program stops short of random testing.

Americans are justifiably concerned about the threat to society posed by drug abuse. But many overlook the threat posed by legal precedents that would overrule our Fourth Amendment right to protection from search without probable cause.

If we agree to random urine tests in an effort to ensure a drug-free workplace, will our children be asked to accept random house searches to encourage a drug-free community? In what other ways might such compromises of the Bill of Rights begin to change our lives?
