HUBBARD HYMNS

The late L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology, was an author, horticulturist, photographer, navigator--and now the driving force behind a new greatest-hits album, “The Road to Freedom,” with music and lyrics by himself.

The collection (on BPI Records) features such star crooners as John Travolta, Frank Stallone, Karen Black, Chick Corea and Leif Garrett, who perform such Hubbard compositions as “The Way to Happiness,” “Why Worship Death” and “The Evil Purpose.”

The disc also offers a “Definitions” section, which helpfully explains some of the more obscure lyric references. For example, “The ARC Song” (with Travolta, Stallone and Black on vocals) refers to ARC, “a word from the initial letters of Affinity, Reality and Communications,” which to Scientologists “has come to mean good feeling, love or friendliness, such as ‘he was in ARC with his friend.’ ”
