Anaheim Stadium Parking Fee Raised $2 for Playoffs

Share

Angel fans will have to pay an extra $2 to park at Anaheim Stadium during the American League playoffs and--if the ball club makes it--the World Series, the Anaheim City Council has voted.

At the request of the Angels, the city raised the price of parking from $3 to $5. The increase is applicable only to the AL championship series and the World Series.

Mayor Pro Tem Irv Pickler cast the lone dissenting vote.

“I didn’t think it was appropriate,” Pickler said after the meeting. “I felt we earn enough and there was no need to raise the price.”

The increase is expected to generate an extra $25,000 a game, half of it going to the city and the other half to the Angels.

John Hays, Angel vice president for marketing, said last week that the added revenue would be used to pay for additional security and other personnel needed during the playoff games, which normally are sellouts. Hays said it was typical for ball clubs to increase parking fees for division championship games.
