UCLA’s Fernald School for learning-disabled students is expected to reopen next week for a final year of classes as a result of an agreement reached between parents and the university. Spokesmen from both sides said they expect the agreement to be signed today. UCLA announced in February that it would close the school June 30 so that funds could be diverted to university research on childhood disabilities. Parents filed suit to stop the closure and obtained a Santa Monica Superior Court order keeping the school open until the litigation was resolved. The settlement will end the lawsuit and keep Fernald open through June, 1987, after which a new location will have to be found if the school is to continue operating, attorneys said.
