The Region : Education Panel Proposes Drug Testing
A Los Angeles Board of Education committee unveiled a drug-testing proposal that would cover 2,400 district and independent school bus drivers and about 300 district police officers. The plan calls for drug testing of job applicants, the addition of drug tests to biennial physical examinations and expansion of the district’s policy of testing drivers when there is “reasonable cause” to suspect drug or alcohol abuse. The plan does not call for the drug testing of teachers. The board committee will review final recommendations in two weeks.
