Buena Park : Salesman Shot, Killed Resisting an Assailant
A Buena Park salesman, who had just left a hotel lounge, was shot and killed in a struggle with a stranger who then fled, police said Friday.
Michael Randy Marchuk, 26, died at UCI Medical Center in Orange, about an hour after he and a companion were approached by a man wielding a gun, Officer Terry Branum said. The incident occurred about 9:20 p.m. Thursday.
Branum said Marchuk and John Patrick Lauzon, 25, of Buena Park spent about 45 minutes inside a lounge at the Holiday Inn, 7000 Beach Blvd., before they walked to a car parked near the hotel.
As they entered their car, a man approached, pointed a gun, and ordered them out. The men struggled, Branum said, and the intruder--believed to be a robber--shot twice, hitting Marchuk once in the chest.
The assailant, who took no money, was last seen running eastbound on Orangethorpe Avenue and getting into a 1976 orange and brown El Camino.
He was described as 5-foot-10 to 6 feet, black, with medium build and wearing a light-colored, long-sleeved shirt and dark trousers.
