Anaheim : Hearing Set Next Month on Closing of Angelo’s
The City Council will decide next month whether to close Angelo’s Hamburgers, which has a lawsuit pending against the city.
The council this week scheduled a public hearing for Oct. 14 on revoking the permit for the restaurant at 211 N. Beach Blvd.
If Angelo’s owners cannot show “just cause” why the city should not revoke the permit, the city will close down the popular eatery because it does not have proper permits and because it represents “a nuisance” because of noise and the number of people and cars it attracts, City Atty. Jack L. White said.
The restaurant and the city have been in disagreement since another Angelo’s opened in Anaheim at 511 S. State College Blvd.
When the outlet on Beach Boulevard opened, the city told its owners that the restaurant did not have proper permits as a drive-in, drive-through restaurant. Angelo’s owners said the restaurant has operated as a drive-in, drive-through restaurant under the last four different owners over more than a decade. They called the city’s actions harassment.
On Aug. 29, Angelo’s sued Anaheim and several city officials, charging that the city’s zoning laws are discriminatory.
