‘County’s Quality of Life’

Dave Baker should abide by his own advice to heed Franklin D. Roosevelt’s famous statement “We have nothing to fear but fear itself.” Baker should not be afraid to say “no” to developers when they ask for general plan amendments that increase density and traffic problems. He should not be afraid to say “no” to new freeways that increase smog. He should not be afraid to recognize slow-growth advocates who are working to preserve our quality of life.

He should recognize that growth has been a major cause of deteriorated air quality in Orange County and Riverside County. His decisions should, indeed, be predicated on a more regional, not parochial, basis, and the region considered should be the entire South Coast Air Basin, which has one of the worst air quality problems in the entire United States.
