Aztec Cross-Country Meet Won by Arizona
Three runners from the University of Arizona men’s cross-country team were among the top four finishers Saturday as the Wildcats won the Aztec Invitational at San Diego State University for the fourth straight year.
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo won the women’s competition for the fifth consecutive time.
Arizona’s Matt Giusto won the men’s race in a time of 30:08, one second ahead of teammate Aaron Ramirez. Ronnie Harris of Navy placed third, Jeff Cannada of Arizona finished fourth and Bill McGrath of the Reebok Running Club came in fifth.
The top San Diego State runner was Ron Naranjo, who finished ninth. SDSU’s men’s team placed fifth among the 25 teams.
Sylvia Mosqueda of Cal State Los Angeles won the women’s competition in 16:59. Mona Lopez, in 34th place, was the top finisher for the Aztecs, who finished 10th. Former Grossmont High School standout Darcy Arreola finished 10th for Cal State Northridge.
