Wilson Faumuina, 32, a former Atlanta Falcons defensive lineman, died Friday in San Francisco of congestive heart failure.
Dr. William Boddie of Scenic General Hospital in Modesto told the San Francisco coroner’s office that Faumuina had suffered several heart attacks in recent years.
“It was a natural death,” coroner’s investigator Timothy Hellman said. “If it had been suspicious, it would’ve come under our jurisdiction.”
Faumuina’s brother, Jim, of Modesto, said, “Since he quit playing, he’s been in pain every day--back, legs, everywhere. He’s been walking with crutches.”
Faumuina was the Falcons’ first-round draft choice in 1977. He retired after the 1981 season.
