Houston-based Transtar Airlines has introduced a top fare of $79 on all coach-class seats systemwide. There are no restrictions. This includes the one-way fare between Los Angeles and Miami. Other fares are $59 between Houston and Los Angeles and $29 between Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

Mexicana Airlines is offering a “buy one ticket, get the second at half price” sale through Oct. 31 between Los Angeles and Los Cabos, Mazatlan or Puerto Vallarta.

UTA French Airlines service from Tahiti to San Francisco and on to Paris will begin on Tuesday instead of late October as previously scheduled. UTA’s service from Los Angeles to Papeete is three times weekly, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Travel writers Richard and Donna Carroll will teach a class in travel writing at USC for five Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. beginning Wednesday. The fee is $125.
