“ADAM: HIS SONG CONTINUES,” 9-11 p.m. Monday (4)(36)(39)--When it comes to movies and TV, nearly everything continues.

Hit theatrical movies from “Rocky” to “Friday the 13th” are guaranteed life in quadruplicate. And Paramount is now weighing a “Friday the 13th” syndicated series for TV, where varying remakes of such old standbys as “Perry Mason,” “Leave It to Beaver,” “Gidget” and “Lassie” are either under way or in the planning stages.

Meanwhile, Daniel J. Travanti and JoBeth Williams are returning as John and Reve Walsh in this two-hour sequel to “Adam,” NBC’s widely seen, finely made and influential 1983 movie about the real-life miseries of a couple whose young son was abducted at a shopping center and murdered.

“Adam” had an enormous national impact in centering attention on the largely ignored problem of missing children. The unpreviewed “Adam: His Song Continues”--a Landsburg Co. production directed by Robert Markowitz and written by Oliver Hailey--is said to follow the Walsh’s continued efforts to keep the problem in the national eye while also keeping their family together.

The original movie aired at a time when there was general indifference about the missing children problem. However, the sequel comes at a time when the frenzy of interest sparked by “Adam” has leveled out and been replaced somewhat by skepticism resulting from Pulitzer Prize-winning articles in the Denver Post alleging that in some cases the number of children cited as missing may have been vastly overblown.

The song--and the controversy--continue.
