The California Air Resources Board approved $2.4 million for acid rain research, including the installation of a network to monitor dry acid fallout. Dry acid fallout is suspected of being California’s greatest source of atmospheric acidity. The monitoring network, involving 10 sites at a cost of $1.4 million, will be the first permanent one of its type in the state. The ARB has operated 35 acid rainfall monitoring sites since 1983.
