Terry W. McAdam, executive vice president and program director of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, was found dead in his Malibu home, officials said Monday. He was 44.

McAdam’s body was discovered Friday afternoon and the cause of death remains under investigation, Los Angeles County coroner’s spokesman Bill Gold said.

McAdam had worked for the Hilton Foundation for three years as supervisor of its grant program department, said Donald H. Hubbs, foundation president. He was responsible for receiving grant applications and developing programs for the expenditure of funds, Hubbs said.

Foundation’s Efforts

The Century City-based foundation, established in 1944 by the late hotel chain magnate, supports Catholic ministries that assist disadvantaged children; programs to reduce violence against children and other family members; efforts to improve public education, and prevention of drug abuse by young people.

McAdam was also chairman of the Los Angeles Area United Way’s task force on future membership policy, a group attempting to recruit minority-oriented organizations to the charity.

Before joining the Hilton Foundation, McAdam was an official of the New York Community Trust and worked for a New York consulting firm.

He had lectured widely on the administration of public trusts and philanthropy at universities in New York, Colorado and California, most recently teaching at UCLA. He received his undergraduate degree from Occidental College and did post-graduate work at UC Berkeley and New York University.

He is survived by his mother, Marjorie of Glendora, and a daughter, Sarah Wyeth of New York.

Plans for a memorial service were incomplete.
