San Diego Roundup : Professional Hockey Comes to Town as Flames to Meet Blues in an Exhibiton

Professional hockey returns to San Diego when the Calgary Flames play the St. Louis Blues in a National Hockey League exhibition game at the Sports Arena Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

This will also mark the first time these two teams have met since Calgary eliminated St. Louis in last spring’s Stanley Cup semifinal, four games to three. More than 6,000 tickets have been sold and 9,000 fans are expected.

Tickets are $15, $12.50 and $7.50.

Super, street and bomber stock cars will race at Cajon Speedway Saturday night.

Gates open at 11 a.m., qualifying starts at 4:30 p.m. and racing begins at 7. East side tickets are $10, west side $8, children 6 to 12 are $5 with an adult, and children under 6 are free.

The Carlsbad Lagoon Jet Ski Races take place Saturday and Sunday at the Snug Harbor Marina in Carlsbad Lagoon.

Registration is Saturday at the race site for novice ($20), expert female professionals ($30) and expert male professionals ($40). Qualifying follows registration Saturday and finals begin Sunday at 10 a.m.

The Carlsbad Parks and Recreation Department is presenting the Carlsbad Men’s “B” Rated Doubles Beach Volleyball Tournament Saturday and Sunday.

The tournament is open to men who do not have a California Beach Volleyball Assn. rating and men who currently have a “B” rating. Registration is $10 per team and the deadline is today, from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4, at the Harding Community Center, 3096 Harding St.

The seventh annual Leukemia Society’s 10-kilometer run and 2-mile walk will be held Oct. 12 across the Coronado Bridge.

Registration, limited to 6,000, can be made at the Leukemia Society’s office at 4535 30th St., Suite 208.
