Stanton : Brothers Accused of Burglary, Child Stealing

An Anaheim man recently separated from his wife was arrested early Friday on suspicion of burglary and child stealing after he took their young daughter from a Stanton apartment, police said.

Armando Torres, 22, and his brother, Arturo Torres, 19, who was arrested on suspicion of the same crimes, were booked into County Jail, Police Lt. Don Creel said.

Police were called to an apartment in the 9100 block of Cerritos Avenue about 2 a.m. They were told that two men entered the apartment of 13-month-old Priscilla Torres’ uncle--who had been baby-sitting the child--and taken her, Creel said.

As he fled the apartment, Armando Torres slipped and dropped his daughter down three or four steps, Creel said. But, he said, the child was not seriously injured.

The men took the child to a home on North Street in Anaheim, Creel said. Officers arrived there and arrested the brothers, who both live there. The girl was taken to Anaheim Memorial Hospital for a “precautionary checkup,” Creel said, and later to Orangewood, the county shelter for homeless, abused and abandoned children.
