Nicaraguans Are Too Much for Newhall
Pablo Juarez and Jose Barberena each hit home runs Friday night to lead the Nicaraguan national team to its third straight victory on its American tour, an 8-2 decision over the Newhall Cats, a team of mostly College of the Canyons players.
The Nicaraguans broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning, which was highlighted by a two-run homer by Juarez and a three-run homer by Barbarena.
Nemesio Porras also hit a solo home run for Nicaragua in the second inning.
The Nicaraguan team had already recorded victories over Cal and Long Beach State on its four-game tour, which is set to wind up with a game at UCLA on Sunday.
Because its arrival was delayed by two days because of visa problems, the Nicaraguan team was forced to cancel the first two games of what originally had been a six-game series.
