38th ASSEMBLY DISTRICT THE DISTRICT: One of the odder configurations to emerge from the latest reapportionment, the long and narrow district includes all of Hidden Hills and portions of Calabasas, Woodland Hills, Canoga Park, Northridge, Chatsworth, Granada Hills, Sylmar, Sunland, Tujunga, Sun Valley, Burbank, La Crescenta and Montrose. Socio-economic groups range from the mainly affluent whites in the hill communities to lower-income whites and minorities in Sunland, Tujunga and Sylmar. Includes the Mt. Wilson observatory in the mountain area above Sunland. THE SURVEY: Questionnaires were mailed to legislative and congressional candidates in September. Answers will be published periodically until the Nov. 4 election. Marian W.
