One man died and another was wounded in a fight that erupted in a Van Nuys neighborhood Friday between two pairs of brothers with the same last name, police said.

The dead man, Arturo Ceja Estrada, 20, and his brother, Jose Antonio Estrada, 22, both of Van Nuys, began arguing with two other brothers shortly before 11 p.m. at an apartment building on Calvert Street, west of Tyrone Avenue, police said.

Jose Domingo Estrada and Ubaldo Salazar, 30, a friend of Arturo Ceja Estrada and Jose Antonio Estrada, were being held without bail Saturday at Van Nuys Jail on suspicion of murder in the death of Arturo Ceja Estrada, police said.

Salazar allegedly joined the argument along with several friends and relatives of the men, triggering the fight, police said.

Jose Antonio Estrada was being held on suspicion of attempted murder in the shooting of Jose Domingo Estrada, 33, who was treated and released from the St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank before being jailed, police said.

The first two brothers and several other men apparently blocked the driveway of the building as two other brothers, Jose Domingo Estrada and Roberto Estrada, 19, also of Van Nuys, were attempting to drive away, police said. The two pairs of brothers are not related, police said.
