A 16-year-old girl, believed to be the mother of a newborn girl found in a National City dumpster, was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide and later released to her parents’ custody. The case will be presented to the district attorney’s office, police said. The infant was found wrapped in a plastic sack by children who heard the baby crying. Calls from tipsters led police to the girl suspected of being the mother. A local hospital where the baby is in stable condition has received numerous calls from people seeking to adopt the child, officials said. The San Diego County Department of Social Services will compile a report on the mother’s ability to care for the infant for Juvenile Court officials, who will determine the baby’s placement.
