Four adult bicyclists were killed when a young motorist swerved off a state highway while she was changing a cassette in her stereo and struck them, Monterey County authorities said. The four unidentified victims, two men and two women, were cycling east on California 152 near Gilroy when they were struck by the car traveling in the same direction at about 50 m.p.h., the California Highway Patrol said. The driver, Catherine Ann Miller, 18, Gilroy, said she was “reaching over for another tape” when she struck the bicyclists, the CHP said. Miller was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and released in the custody of her mother.
