San Diego
Following the lead of San Diego County supervisors, the San Diego City Council on Monday approved an ordinance making it illegal to carry dogs and other animals in the back of a truck without having them restrained.
In addition, the council made it against the law to leave an animal in an unattended car or truck without adequate ventilation.
The ordinance was recommended by the San Diego County Humane Society in an effort to cut down on the number of dogs that fall or jump out of moving pickup trucks and to give police more authority to cite people for leaving pets inside vehicles on hot days, when they are vulnerable to heat stroke.
