A San Diego woman and her 6-week-old daughter were killed Sunday night when the car in which they were riding was struck head-on by a wrong-way driver near Anza in Riverside County.

Patricia Miller, 31, died shortly before midnight Sunday at Hemet Valley Hospital, a spokeswoman for the Riverside County coroner’s office said. Her daughter, Kathryn, was pronounced dead at the scene, the spokeswoman said.

Thomas Miller, 32, the driver of the vehicle, was in the intensive care unit of Hemet Valley Hospital Monday, but hospital personnel would not disclose his condition.

The family was southbound on California 371 when their car collided head-on with a pickup truck that had crossed from the northbound lane, said Officer George Young of the California Highway Patrol. The truck caught fire with its driver trapped inside, Young said.

Riverside County coroner’s deputies have tentatively identified the badly burned body found inside the truck as that of a 38-year-old man from Santa Ysabel.
