Long Beach : Ride Service Fares Increased

Share

The Long Beach City Council has unanimously approved a request of the Senior Citizen Share Ride Service to increase its basic fare from $2 to $3, effective immediately.

The firm had requested the increase to cover a jump in insurance costs, which according to City Manager John Dever, went from $12,000 to $26,000 in the past year. Without the fare increase, Dever said, “the city could very well lose the service.”

The firm, which operates six station wagons and one car, drives senior citizens around the downtown area for $3. The service divides the rest of the city into 16 zones, with transportation to additional zones provided for $1 per zone. The maximum fare was formerly $7, but under the new rates, will be boosted to $8.
