Though Roger Clemens insisted that he had good velocity in Game 1, Angel sources say they clocked him in the 86 to 88-m.p.h. range.

He is normally at 93 to 96.

There is lingering suspicion that Clemens is still hurting after being hit on the right elbow by a line drive in his last regular season start.

His 143 pitches Tuesday night were his season high, five more than he threw in his 20 strikeout game against Seattle.
