Kapp Shows More Zip Than His Team, but Vulgar Gesture Only Adds to Woes

Joe Kapp, football coach at California, apparently has plenty of problems--his team is stumbling with a 1-3 record, and the prospect of winning many more games this season is bleak--but he added to his woes with a vulgar gesture after Cal’s 50-18 loss to Washington last Saturday at Seattle.

During the postgame interview, Mike Antonucci of the San Jose Mercury News asked Kapp: “After something like this, do you look to yourself and the other coaches?”

Antonucci said Kapp sort of laughed and said, “Do you want to see my (bleep), too, Mike?” and unzipped his fly, revealing white underwear.

Kapp quickly zipped up, and the questioning continued, according to Antonucci.

Kapp later apologized publicly for his actions, and Athletic Director Dave Maggard, after discussing the incident with his coach, said: “It’s not a comment that can be condoned.”
