Irvine Golfers Lead by Nichols’ 73
UC Irvine’s Gary Nichols is tied for second, three shots behind the leader, going into the final round of the University of New Mexico golf tournament.
Nichols shot a 73 Friday to give him a two-day total of 140.
Tim Laostalot (137) of Fresno State is in first. Jeff Hellman of the University of the Pacific and Doug Wherry of Texas El Paso are tied with Nichols.
UC Irvine’s Joe Epson (144) is in 8th and Steve Puck (148) is 33rd.
In the team competition, Fresno State (575) is in first, and Irvine (583) is sixth.
