When will it be safe enough to go back to the movies? Next summer?

Well, following is a list of next summer’s calendar of films as compiled from assorted studio, producer and exhibitor sources.

This is very very VERY tentative because some of the scripts haven’t even been completed, all the stars haven’t been signed and some of the directors still haven’t been fired yet over artistic differences. And the studios invariably play scheduling games. So don’t ink these in your datebook yet. . . .

20th Century Fox: “The Predator” stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as a military man looking for captured allies in a Latin American jungle. He winds up squaring off against an alien. French actor Christopher Lambert is “The Sicilian,” based on Mario Puzo’s novel. Warren Beatty isn’t “The Pickup Artist,” but he’s producing the romantic comedy with Molly Ringwald. Rob Reiner directs Peter Falk and Billy Crystal in William Goldman’s adaptation of his novel “The Princess Bride.”

Paramount: Eddie Murphy returns as Axel Foley in “Beverly Hills Cop II.” Kevin Costner, Sean Connery and Robert De Niro (as Scarface Al) reprise “The Untouchables.” Carl Reiner directs Mark Harmon in a comedy, “Summer School.” John Hughes directs Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern in his first “adult” film, “She’s Having a Baby.” Guess who returns in “Pee Wee Herman at the Circus?”

Universal: Steven Spielberg produces “Batteries Not Included.” Robert Zemeckis directs “The Shadow,” based on the old radio character who clouded men’s minds so they could not see him. Chevy Chase reprises “Fletch 2.” Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton are reunited with director-screenwriter Colin Higgins in “Washington Girls.” Martin Short is/goes out on an “American Date.” Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks revive “Dragnet.” Michael J. Fox teams with director Herb Ross to reveal “The Secret of My Success.”

Disney: Richard Dreyfuss and Danny DeVito sell aluminum siding in “Tin Men.” Steve Tisch produces “Big Business,” Robert Chartoff produces “Straight Talk” and Ron Howard produces “Splash II.”

Columbia: Matt Dillon, Tommy Lee Jones and Bruce Dern are Chicago dice-throwers in “The Arm.” Taylor Hackford produces a film on ‘50s rock star Richie Valens based on his most famous song, “La Bamba.” Steve Martin and Darryl Hannah are mis-matched lovers in “Roxanne,” as in Cyrano’s Roxanne. Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman sing and clown around in the much delayed “Ishtar.” Sequels to “Jagged Edge,” “Ghostbusters” and “Fright Night” pop in and out of the summer schedule. Richard Pryor is “The Man Who Could Work Miracles.”

Cannon: Lou Ferrigno is “Sinbad,” Dolph Lundgren is one of the “Masters of the Universe,” Charles Bronson is the “Assassin” and Tahnee Welch is “Sleeping Beauty.”

United Artists: Timothy Dalton is the new James Bond in “The Living Daylights.” Jim Belushi and John Ritter get involved in a comic CIA adventure, “Real Men.”

Martin Sheen and Helen Shaver star in the supernatural drama “The Believers.” Donovan Leitch, the son of the ‘60s flower-power singer Donovan, is the leader of “The In Crowd.” Peter Weller and Stephanie Zimbalist do battle with a “Robocop.”

DeLaurentiis Entertainment: Jerry Lewis returns in the “Nutty Professor II.” Nick Nolte is a paroled convict who organizes a theatrical group in “Weeds.” William Friedkin directs “Rampage,” the story of a frustrated prosecutor who goes on a you-know-what when a killer cops a plea and is set free.

Tri-Star: Michael Keaton is the “Skip Tracer.” Jeff Bridges and Kim Basinger are directed by Robert Benton in “Nadine.” Denver Nuggets star Alex English makes his film debut opposite Jamie Lee Curtis and Gregory Peck in “Amazing Grace and Chuck.” Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as “The Running Man.” Mickey Rourke and Robert DeNiro team in the murder mystery “Angel Heart.” “Rambo III” finds Sly Stallone playing Lawrence of Afghanistan, doing something patriotic and rescuing somebody.
