Best Absenteeism Excuse of the Year: Student Held Hostage by 3-Legged Dog
A shaken University of Georgia student told her speech professor that she was late for class because a three-legged dog “held me hostage in my house.”
“This is one of the most unusual stories I’ve heard yet,” Prof. Dwight Freshley said.
But Freshley said he had no reason to doubt Christine Swartout’s account of her 40-minute ordeal inside her campus apartment.
“She was still shaken,” the professor said. “She is so sincere and conscientious that she came in with only five minutes left in the class.”
“I was leaving to go to class, and there was this dog outside,” Swartout said. “It was very mean. It was a three-legged dog and it held me hostage in my house.”
Ann Brewer, supervisor of Athens animal services, confirmed that Swartout had reported the unusual encounter.
