From a Times Staff Writer
Bobby Schwartz won the U.S. speedway motorcycle championship Saturday night at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa by winning a runoff with Robert Pfetzing.
Schwartz and Pfetzing each finished five heat races with 14 points, forcing the second runoff in the last 19 years.
Pfetzing won the pole position on a coin flip, but Schwartz took a quick lead and took the title after finishing second the past two years.
