A 4-year-old Rowland Heights boy died at Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles of what sheriff’s homicide detectives said was a beating. A sheriff’s spokesman identified the apparent child-abuse victim as Richard Hilt. The spokesman said detectives were questioning the joint custody parents and stepparents to determine who was responsible for the alleged crime. The boy was hospitalized Saturday and hospital officials called the Sheriff’s Department into the case.
