An 18-year-old Santa Ana man who was shot near the House of Almonds in South Coast Plaza on Sunday was in stable condition Monday, police said.

The victim, identified as Shawn Paine, was wounded once in the stomach about 4 p.m., said Police Lt. Leslie Harrison. He said a 15-year-old Santa Ana boy was arrested moments later on suspicion of attempted murder.

An argument broke out between the suspect and victim inside the McDonald’s restaurant near the Sears, Roebuck store, Harrison said. He said the fight spilled into the plaza promenade near the House of Almonds, where the suspect shot Paine with a small-caliber handgun.
