The Reno County Commission in Hutchinson, Kan., voted 3 to 0 to uphold the firing of a public health nurse for refusing to visit an AIDS patient to determine whether he required home care. The county Public Health Department fired Margaret Durr last month, maintaining that she had a professional responsibility to the patient, that she was not in any danger and that she was being asked to do routine tasks. Durr said that she should have the right to refuse a case that she did not think she could handle and that she thought was dangerous. Her lawyer said no decision had been made on an appeal.
