Laguna Hills : CHP Finds Overload in Crushed-Car Accident

Share

A trailer carrying a bulldozer that rolled off and crushed a sports car in Laguna Hills last week was overloaded by 22,500 pounds, and the chain used to secure the 75,000-ton bulldozer was rated for only 16,000 pounds, according to a California Highway Patrol investigation.

CHP spokesman Ken Daily said the information has been turned over to the district attorney’s office with recommendations that the truck-trailer driver be cited on those and other misdemeanor counts.

The driver of the sports car, Thomas Cooper, 60, of Laguna Niguel, who was trapped in his flattened 1969 Porsche for more than an hour, escaped with back injuries and chemical burns from spilled gasoline. He was released from Mission Community Hospital on Wednesday.
